SAMI Delegation Attends Meeting of CSTO Interstate Commission on Military-Economic Cooperation
On 12 September 2019, Yerevan (Armenia) hosted the 17th meeting of the CSTO Interstate Commission on Military-Economic Cooperation (hereinafter referred to as the Commission). The meeting was chaired by Yury Borisov, Russian Deputy Prime Minister and head of the Commission. The meeting was also attended by Armenian Deputy Prime Minister Tigran Avinyan, CSTO Acting Secretary General Valery Semerikov, delegations of the national parts of the Commission of the CSTO member states. The Belarusian delegation was led by Dmitry Pantus, Deputy Minister of State Authority for Military Industry (SAMI).
The meeting summarised the Commission’s activities for the period since its previous meeting in September last year in Almaty (Kazakhstan), analysed the implementation of the CSTO military-economic cooperation programme adopted in May 2016. In addition, the participants discussed the results of the work done and identified prospects for the further development of military-economic cooperation within the CSTO framework.
Following the discussion of agenda issues, decisions were made aimed at improving multilateral cooperation in this area. In particular, the draft concept of an integrated systematic approach to ensuring and controlling the quality of military products developed and produced jointly within the CSTO framework, as well as the draft decision of the CSTO Collective Security Council on a basic organisation in the field of development of cooperation and integration ties between defence companies of the CSTO member states.
A set of decisions has been made on issues of mutual protection of intellectual property rights obtained and used in the course of military-economic cooperation within the CSTO framework. The meeting regulated the procedure for considering appeals of participants in agreements (contracts) on an alleged violation of intellectual property rights, as well as the procedure for organising information interaction between the national parts of the Coordination Council under the CSTO Interstate Commission on Military-Economic Cooperation. The meeting considered the preparations for the International Military-Economic Conference on development trends, problems and prospects of military-economic cooperation of the CSTO member states, which will be held in 23 October this year as part of the business programme of the INTERPOLITEX 2019 security equipment exhibition. The Commission approved an action plan for 2020.
According to analysts, the agreements reached will serve as a good basis for expanding and deepening cooperation between the CSTO member states in the military-economic sphere.
The next meeting of the CSTO Interstate Commission on Military-Economic Cooperation will be held in Minsk in September 2020.
