Four Repaired and Modernised in Belarus MiG-29 Fighters Were Handed Over to Serbia

On 25 February 2019, at 558 Aircraft Repair Plant JSC, the Belarusian Defence Ministry, within military-technical assistance, handed over to the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Serbia four MiG-29 aircraft, which had been routinely repaired and modernised at 558 Aircraft Repair Plant JSC (Baranovichi).

In April 2021, the first two repaired and upgraded aircraft were delivered to Serbia, and two more were delivered in May.

On 9 June 2021, at the Batajnica military airfield, in accordance with the agreement on military-technical cooperation between Belarus and Serbia, a handover ceremony of four MiG-29 aircraft to the Air Force of the Serbian army was held.

The ceremony was attended by Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Serbian Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Petar Cvetković, Assistant Minister of Defence for Material Resources Nenad Miloradovich, First Deputy Minister of the State Authority for Military Industry of Belarus Major General Igor Demidenko and Belarusian Ambassador to Belgrade Valery Brilev.

After the demonstration flights, the combat vehicles were examined by a special joint commission. The Serbian and Belarusian sides noted the importance of the event and the high quality of the work performed.

The commissioning of the modernised aircraft will significantly increase the capabilities of the Air Force and Air Defence, as well as the Serbian Armed Forces as a whole. The total number of combat-ready fighters of this type in service with the Serbian Air Force has grown to 14 units.
